Five San Angelo ISD Students Earn Prestigious All-State Music Honors

San Angelo ISD proudly celebrates five students from Central High School and Lake View High School who reached the highest level a high school musician can achieve through the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) by earning the distinguished honor of TMEA All-State in band, orchestra and choir.

Congratulations to:

  • Isaac Carrales-Rodriguez – LVHS senior, All-State Mariachi Ensemble, trumpet (2nd time consecutive)
  • Sophia Underhill – CHS sophomore, 6A All State, flute
  • Jayden Wilha – CHS senior, 6A All State, clarinet
  • Ian Caraballo – CHS sophomore, 6A All State, clarinet
  • Merit Shelton – CHS senior, Large School Mixed Choir, tenor (2nd time)

“SAISD is very proud of our talented and hardworking 2025 All State Musicians,” said SAISD Director of Fine Arts and Advanced Academics Tiffany Huebner. “Much practice and many rounds of auditions and competitions have preceded this honor.”

To be selected for the All-State honor, CHS and LVHS students joined over 70,000 high school musicians from across the state to audition before a panel of judges in 33 TMEA Regions. Students who ranked the highest then advanced to compete against student musicians from other TMEA Regions at the TMEA Area level, with the highest-ranking then qualifying for All-State status.

Isaac Carrales-Rodriguez has been named a member of the All-State Band for two consecutive years. This is Merit Shelton’s second time being honored as a member of All-State Band. This is the first year Sophia Underhill, Jayden Wilha and Ian Caraballo have been honored as All-State musicians.

The All-State student musicians will perform with their respective All-State ensembles on February 15, 2025 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. Nationally recognized conductors will direct the ensembles who rehearse for three days and conclude with the concert performances.

“This weekend at TMEA our all-state musicians will rehearse with nationally recognized conductors and perform in front of thousands of TMEA attendees and each performance will be a masterpiece of perfection with the best musicians from across the state of Texas,” said Mrs. Huebner. “This is the kind of experience that will make a lifelong impact for students, family, and teachers. Congratulations to all!”

San Angelo ISD extends proud congratulations to these talented students, and commends their dedication to creating beautiful music while exemplifying the attributes of the SAISD Learner Profile. We sincerely thank our committed SAISD educators who help to develop and cultivate the talents of our students in celebration of all the ways students are smart. Congratulations to the following talented Difference Makers: CHS Band – Jason Jones, Mike Barry, Robert Kosko, and Caleb Lenard; CHS Choir – Landon Gilmore and Sunday Vaught; and LVHS Mariachi – Rosendo Ramos, Ezra Ramirez, and Frank Carreon.
