Mayor Gunter Proclaims School Board Recognition Month in San Angelo to Celebrate San Angelo ISD Board of Trustees

San Angelo ISD School Board Trustees were recognized at the San Angelo City Council Meeting on the morning of Tuesday, January 17, 2023 with a special proclamation by Mayor Brenda Gunter declaring January 2023 as “School Board Recognition Month” in San Angelo.

"I, Brenda Gunter, Mayor of the City of San Angelo, Texas, on behalf of the City Council, declare our appreciation to the members of the San Angelo Independent School Board and proclaim the month of January 2023, as ‘SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH’ in San Angelo, Texas and urge all citizens to join us and San Angelo ISD in recognizing the dedication and hard work of the SAISD school board members and to partner with them to mold an education system that meets the needs of both today’s and tomorrow’s children and produces future-ready graduates."

Board Vice President Bill Dendle addressed the Council and attendees expressing the pride our board members have in serving SAISD with a focus on doing what is best for students and supporting teachers and staff. Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff then commended the Board Trustees for their steady hand in guiding SAISD and noted these non-paid, elected trustees are cohesive and unified in making the best possible decisions for our children and our community.

The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) designates January of each year as School Board Recognition Month to celebrate hard-working school board members and educate the public about the important role that a school board plays in our communities and schools. San Angelo ISD’s seven members of the Board of Trustees recognize the importance of public education to our community, and chose to run for election to serve our community and district. Serving on the Board is not an easy task as it is a huge time commitment involving at times very complex issues and is an unpaid position. San Angelo can count on their school board members to weather trials, create opportunities to  provide input and collaborate on important issues, develop solutions, and empower educators while remaining focused on the future of San Angelo students. Our dedicated school board members work with parents, educators, community members, and business leaders to create successful learning environments with the future of San Angelo in mind.

San Angelo ISD school board trustees were recognized during the January 17, 2023 regular board meeting with special gifts from the students they represent including special letters of thanks from our elementary students and handmade gifts from Career and Technical Education (CTE) graphic design students.

Please join Mayor Gunter, the City of San Angelo and SAISD in thanking each of our seven hard-working trustees for their dedicated leadership in public education and their continuing service to the children of San Angelo ISD: Max Parker, Bill Dendle, Lupita Arroyo, Dr. Taylor Kingman, Ami Mizell-Flint, Pam Duncan, and Gerard Gallegos. On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of San Angelo ISD, we sincerely thank you and honor how you exemplify how at SAISD, our people make the difference.
